Bike-In Movies at the Tin Roof! Begins on July 22, 2013!

Bike-In Movies at the Tin Roof

Ideas have been brewing for months, and now a date is fixed for the evening of Monday, July 22nd at 7 p.m. to debut Bike-In Movies at the Tin Roof.  This is a free event.

Local Charleston artist, musician and bike culture enthusiast Tim Edgar is working together with Tin Roof’s Shawn Krauss to bring something unique to Charleston while encouraging the city’s bicycle scene. Concerned that Charleston’s bike culture still struggles compared to cities like Milwaukee, where Edgar lived for six years, he decided to organize an event that will allow Charleston’s like-minded two-wheel riders to either travel together or meet up for a fun and free event that celebrates the movement to get more drivers out of their cars and onto pedal-driven bicycles.

July 22nd will be the first of many bike-in movies to come to the Tin Roof, with each one featuring—in true drive-in form—a double feature of bike-friendly movies. The first films to feature will be PeeWee’s Big Adventure and E.T., The Extraterrestrial. The movies will be shown inside the air-conditioned Tin Roof and projected onto their big screen beginning at 7 p.m. They’ll be sandwiched with showings of classic serials before and in between the features.

Free popcorn will be given out and happy hour specials will apply to everyone who rides their bikes to the event.

There will be a meeting point where bikers can travel as a group to the event, although this is only an option and anyone can bike from anywhere they wish. However, if moviegoers would like to ride in a pack, they should meet at SpaceCraft Studios that evening, ready for a 6.30 p.m. departure to the Tin Roof.  Cyclists are encouraged to ride safely and responsibly, using helmets and proper lights and obeying all traffic laws.

Further details will be posted in the Facebook event here.

The Tin Roof  is located at 1117 Magnolia Road, Charleston, SC 29407. It is seconds from the Highway 61 outlet for the West Ashley Bike Trail, and the trail also intercepts Magnolia Road.

SpaceCraft Studios, a craft workshop with an affection for bike culture,  is located at 8 Avondale Avenue, Charleston, SC 29407.
