We are not showing Goonies tonight, but are STILL biking for drinks, friends, and fun!

ATTENTION: Hey guys: We have to cancel the showing of Goonies until next time. We are STILL biking to the Tin Roof tonight and eating free popcorn and having awesome boozy frozen drinks and enjoying the company of our fellow bike enthusiasts. However, since we don't have the rights to the movie (YET), we can't show Goonies (YET). We were contacted about needing to obtain licensing fees, which makes sense, and is certainly feasible provided we do so in plenty of time beforehand and obtain sponsors and such. Apologies for the disappointment but please do meet up with us tonight anyway for some bike solidarity, and we'll figure out the entertainment between now and then. We are still meeting at SpaceCraft Studios in Avondale behind Papa Murphy's and departing there for a group ride at 6.30 sharp!

Next date: Monday, August 26th

The second-ever Bike-In Movie will be hosted at Tin Roof next Monday, Aug 26 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Last month’s Bike-In Movie debut was a huge success, with the empty parking lot of Tin Roof a strange but refreshing contrast to the bicycle-filled patio. This month, we’ll be showing only one movie since a double feature doesn’t allow bikers to return home during daylight hours.

Free popcorn will be given out and happy hour specials will apply to everyone who rides their bikes to the event.

A group ride will depart SpaceCraft Studios in Avondale behind Papa Murphy's at 6.30 pm. This is only an option and anyone can bike from anywhere they wish. Organizers will be there waiting for participants beginning at 6 p.m.

This option is also a great one for people who wish to participate but do not want to bike all the way from places like Mount Pleasant.  Last time, a group met at Hampton Park downtown and biked together to West Ashley, while others parked their cars at an Avondale group ride point then rode on to Tin Roof.

Cyclists are encouraged to ride safely and responsibly, using helmets and proper lights and obeying all traffic laws.

This is a reoccurring event reserved for the last Monday of each month.

Bike-In Movies at the Tin Roof! Begins on July 22, 2013!

Bike-In Movies at the Tin Roof

Ideas have been brewing for months, and now a date is fixed for the evening of Monday, July 22nd at 7 p.m. to debut Bike-In Movies at the Tin Roof.  This is a free event.

Local Charleston artist, musician and bike culture enthusiast Tim Edgar is working together with Tin Roof’s Shawn Krauss to bring something unique to Charleston while encouraging the city’s bicycle scene. Concerned that Charleston’s bike culture still struggles compared to cities like Milwaukee, where Edgar lived for six years, he decided to organize an event that will allow Charleston’s like-minded two-wheel riders to either travel together or meet up for a fun and free event that celebrates the movement to get more drivers out of their cars and onto pedal-driven bicycles.

July 22nd will be the first of many bike-in movies to come to the Tin Roof, with each one featuring—in true drive-in form—a double feature of bike-friendly movies. The first films to feature will be PeeWee’s Big Adventure and E.T., The Extraterrestrial. The movies will be shown inside the air-conditioned Tin Roof and projected onto their big screen beginning at 7 p.m. They’ll be sandwiched with showings of classic serials before and in between the features.

Free popcorn will be given out and happy hour specials will apply to everyone who rides their bikes to the event.

There will be a meeting point where bikers can travel as a group to the event, although this is only an option and anyone can bike from anywhere they wish. However, if moviegoers would like to ride in a pack, they should meet at SpaceCraft Studios that evening, ready for a 6.30 p.m. departure to the Tin Roof.  Cyclists are encouraged to ride safely and responsibly, using helmets and proper lights and obeying all traffic laws.

Further details will be posted in the Facebook event here.

The Tin Roof  is located at 1117 Magnolia Road, Charleston, SC 29407. It is seconds from the Highway 61 outlet for the West Ashley Bike Trail, and the trail also intercepts Magnolia Road.

SpaceCraft Studios, a craft workshop with an affection for bike culture,  is located at 8 Avondale Avenue, Charleston, SC 29407.
